Click on a link in the following table to view a document online (DSP-1 is in sections because of file size).

Hard copies of DSP-1 and DSP-3 are available at no cost, as are disk copies of DSP-2. To request an item, e-mail your mailing address with the document number(s) to itrc@wpi.biz.

To print a document, RIGHT-click on the link in the table and (depending on your browser) select 'Save (Target) As...' or 'Print Target.' NOTE: It is generally faster to download the PDF to a local drive, then open and print it with Acrobat Reader.

Doc. # Title Description
DSP-1

User’s Guide for Polyethylene-Based Passive Diffusion Bag Samplers to Obtain Volatile Organic Compound Concentrations in Wells (March 2001). Part 1 (complete) and Part 2 through Section B (Note: 2.1 MB) Part 2 Section C through end (Note: 4.1 MB) A jointly developed protocol for determining when, where, and how to use diffusion samplers for groundwater sampling
DSP-2 Diffusion Sampler Resource CD (July 2004) —Much of this material is also available on the Diffusion Sampler Information Center site.) Searchable CD containing ITRC guidance documents, nearly 80 articles and presentations on various diffusion samplers, the ITRC training video, and the AFCEE/ Parsons field sampling video.
DSP-3

Technical and Regulatory Guidance for Using Polyethylene Diffusion Bag Samplers to Monitor Volatile Organic Compounds in Groundwater (February 2004) (Note: Hard copies will be available in late March.) A guide for regulators, technology users, and stakeholders to facilitate the use of polyethylene diffusion bag sampling, particularly for long-term monitoring.

DSP-4

Technology Overview of Passive Sampler Technologies (March 2006) Overview of 12 passive sampling technologies and describes each technology’s basis of operation, intended applications, advantages, limitations, and development status.

Advisory Opinion - Passive Diffusion Bag Samplers for VOC Sample Collection from Groundwater Monitoring Wells

PDB Cost Model

The intent of the cost model is to allow the user to compare sampling costs for using PDBs, the current sampling method, and a user alternative.  The instructions give a thorough explanation of how to use the cost model, while the example illustrates the utility and flexibility of the cost model spreadsheet.  The files are small and can be downloaded quickly.

PDB Demonstration Report Available
Parsons Engineering Science issued a final report in August 2003 of PDB sampling at 14 Department of Defense installations. A total of 1,199 samples were collected from 332 wells. Analytical results and costs from PDB and conventional samples were compared. Click on the title to view or download the report (2.2 MB pdf file).
